Negotiating new labor contracts in the airline industry and at American is always an intensive, challenging and emotional process. That’s understandable. This is a company that many of us have invested a good part of our lives in, we’re all proud of, and we want to see succeed.
There is a lot on the line in the negotiations process – for employees and the company. We will make decisions that will help shape our future. So we’re launching this forum to share ideas and insight about what’s happening around our industry, what’s happening within the company and what it means for Section 6 negotiations.
For the Record, our new online column, falls squarely in line with one of the central objectives for this site – to shine a light on the negotiations process and speak openly about our business, the challenges we face and the opportunities that lie ahead
What we say won’t always be popular and I hope to challenge conventional thinking. But I’m certain that this forum will raise questions and spark discussions about what’s best for our company.
I can’t predict today what our agreements will look like when all is said and done, but I’m confident that the approach we’ve taken in this round of negotiations will make us a stronger company. I hope it will give our employees greater job security and the ability to advance their careers. I hope it gives the company the flexibility to take advantage of the opportunities on the horizon and not fall behind our competitors in the global marketplace.
Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll ask a number of those involved in the negotiations process to provide their perspectives. If you have comments, please send them to aanegotiations.feedback@aa.com. We may not be able to personally respond to every question or comment, but I can assure you that we will read every comment and appreciate any feedback you may have.
Thanks and talk with you again soon.
